Job cost and pricing calculator FAQ

What is the difference between job cost and job price?

Job cost is what you expect the work to cost your business. Job price is what you plan to charge the customer. The amount left after subtracting the costs you include from the job price is the estimated profit.

What is the difference between a billing rate and a job price?

A billing rate is the amount charged per labor hour. A job price is the total price for the full job.

Do these calculators tell me what competitors charge?

No. They do not use market pricing or competitor data. The calculations are based only on the costs, labor hours, revenue, rates, and margin targets you enter.

Do these tools calculate payroll, taxes, or accounting profit?

No. They are general planning calculators. They do not calculate payroll taxes, benefits, income taxes, sales taxes, bookkeeping entries, or formal accounting profit.
