Calculation: a rectangular room uses 2 × (length + width) minus the deductions you enter. Direct measured runs use the entered linear feet. The calculator totals those runs, applies your extra-material percentage, divides by your stock-piece length, and rounds up to whole pieces.

How do I calculate linear feet of baseboard for a rectangular room?

The calculator uses the room perimeter, 2 × (length + width), then subtracts the total deductions you enter for doorways, cabinets, built-ins, or other sections where baseboard will not run.

Should I subtract doorways from the baseboard measurement?

Subtract only the actual openings or sections where the trim will stop. Measure the job instead of relying on a standard doorway width, especially when openings vary.

How much extra baseboard or trim should I add?

There is no fixed allowance in this calculator. Extra material starts at 0%, so you can enter the percentage that fits your material, cut plan, room layout, and job conditions.

How does the calculator determine how many trim pieces to buy?

It applies your extra-material percentage to the measured trim length, divides that result by the stock-piece length you entered, and rounds up to a whole piece.

Can I use this for door casing, window casing, crown molding, or chair rail?

Yes. Use Direct measured run when a room perimeter is not the right measurement. Enter the linear footage from your field takeoff and keep materials with different stock lengths in separate calculations.

Does the piece count optimize cuts or joints?

No. It converts total required footage to whole stock pieces. It does not create a cut list, optimize offcuts, choose joint locations, or guarantee that every individual run fits the available piece lengths.

Can I mix different stock lengths in one calculation?

No. The calculator uses one stock-piece length for the current calculation. If the job uses different profiles or stock lengths, calculate them separately.
