1. Job reference

Optional details for this move.

No usable saved Moving Inventory found.

Imports saved job details and a verified inventory reference only. It does not convert inventory lines, cubic footage, or packing responsibility into required supply quantities.

2. Packing materials

Material / supply and Required quantity are required for any row you start. On hand defaults to zero when left blank.

3. Results

Purchase quantities come only from the required and on-hand amounts you enter.

Supply planning, not quantity estimation

This planner does not decide how many boxes or packing supplies a move requires. Enter the quantities your business chooses based on its own inventory, site survey, packing scope, or experience.

How to use the Moving Packing Materials Planner

  1. Optionally load a saved Moving Inventory to bring over the job reference and a verified inventory summary.
  2. Add only the boxes, wrapping materials, protection supplies, or other packing items you plan to use.
  3. Enter the required quantity and how much usable stock is already on hand.
  4. Add a unit cost when you want the planner to calculate a purchase cost for that line.
  5. Review the to-buy amounts, then copy, export, save, or print the plan for purchasing and packing prep.

How the calculations work

For each material, To buy = max(Required − On hand, 0). When a unit cost is entered, Purchase cost = To buy × Unit cost. The overall purchase-cost result is marked partial when at least one material still needs to be purchased but has no unit cost.

Moving packing materials planner FAQ

Does this tool estimate how many boxes or packing supplies I need?

No. It intentionally avoids home-size formulas and preset supply ratios. Enter the quantities your business has decided to use for the move.

What should I enter as on-hand quantity?

Use the amount of usable stock already available for this move. The planner subtracts that amount from the required quantity and never creates a negative purchase quantity.

How is planned purchase cost calculated?

The planner multiplies each positive to-buy quantity by the unit cost you enter. If a material still needs to be purchased and no unit cost is entered, the total is identified as partial.

What does the saved Moving Inventory import do?

It imports available job-reference fields and rebuilds the inventory totals from valid saved inventory items. It can also show which inventory lines were marked for mover packing, but it never converts those items into automatic box or supply quantities.
